Ultimate TFT Guide – The Mountain Board Master
The four special elemental board forms are one of the most unique aspects of TFT’s set 2 Rise of the Elements. Each game, players will be battling it out on either a Cloud, Ocean, Mountain or Infernal board with each providing unique buffs to units situated on one of the two elemental hexes. TFTDom’s guide below will provide everything you need to know to become The Mountain Board Master!
What are TFT Elemental Hexes?
The second set of Teamfight Tactics is named, Rise of the Elements. Titled perfectly after the introduction of the new elemental hexes which act similarly to the current Summoner’s Rift Elemental Dragons. Decided at random, each match will start with one of the four elements. Based on the chosen element, hexes will appear on the board that grants buffs to the units placed on them.
Placing a unit on an elemental hex will take up an item slot. If a unit currently possesses three items and is placed on an elemental hex, the hex will provide no effects. After the first carousel, one hex will appear and once you’ve reached rounds 3-1 a second hex will appear with the location identical for all players.

What stats do Mountain Hexes Provide? Placing a unit on a hex with the Mountain element will grant +30 permanent max HP per round.
Best TFT Mountain Items
Mountain boards items work best whenever they maximize the value of high health units, by contrast, players can opt to counter build against high health units. When looking to get tanky, you’ll want to aim for plenty of Giant’s Belts. In addition, if you’re looking to counter high health units, Giant’s Belt also builds into strong counter items like Red Buff and Morellonomicon.
Approach each Carousel round with clear objective goals, focusing on single items that when combined produce practical full items.
- Giant’s Belt ( Warmog’s Armor, Morellonomicon, Red Buff)
- B.F Sword (Giant Slayer. Guardian Angel)
For the best TFT Mountain combined items, select strong items that are in sync with Health Gain or shredding potential.
- Warmog’s Armor
- Ionic Spark
- Red Buff
- Giant Slayer
Best Champs and Team Comps – TFT Mountain Board
Since the permanent HP begins in the first round, it is typically the best move to get HP on early-game units. To achieve this, aim for strong tanky units that are viable in the later stages of the game. When you’re moving into the mid-game with the second Mountain hex, it’s essential to have a high health unit to get some bonus health underway.
In this example, we use either Thresh or Ornn as the recipient of the first Mountain Hex.
Mountain Board Final Notes
Positioning early-game units on mountain boards are mainly where players get the most value, with items helping to enhance the gains even more. When hexes are placed on the backline, use the Mountain hex to help protect a ranged carry. Optionally you can use Qiyana on the backline Hex and pair with Malphite for the Mountain Trait buff.
TFT Mountain Boards offer impressive innate defences but stay sharp, scout your opponents to make sure they’re not building a tank shredding composition.
